Helena Fredriksson uses her drawings and photographs to create the nature inspired original prints used throughout her collections. TRUNK asked a few questions about Helena's process and inspiration...
Trunk: Where are you from?
H Fredriksson: Gothenburg, Sweden
Trunk: Your background is in painting
and photography.
Does this influence your designs/textiles?
HF: I photograph and manipulate my images to create all the fabric prints for the collection, I also think my sense of color comes from years of painting and shines thru in the collection.

Trunk: How is sustainable-conscious design incorporated in your collections?
HF: All garments are manufactured fair trade and locally in NYC. I create my patterns with a minimal waste concept to use the full widths of fabrics and minimize fabric waste. My knits are made fair trade in Bolivia by a womens collective. I use sustainable fabrics, natural fibers, silks cupros, hemp, organic cottons and reclaimed wools and linings in all my garments.
Trunk: Who are your muses
and inspiration?
HF: Designers who inspire me are mostly from the past such as Cristobal Balenciaga & Madame Gres. Painters and artist like Gerhard Richter, Francesca Woodman, Mamma Andersson is a few that inspire me with their work, colors and eye...

Trunk: What is the inspiration
behind your current collection?
HF: The S14 Collection takes inspiration from a trip to morocco last spring, such a magic place! All the prints are from photos taken in Marrakesh & Essaouira, the Palm print for instance is from Jardin Majorell, in Marrakesh, Yves St Laurent's botanical garden and last resting place.
